Through our Green Art initiative we provide “green” education, entertainment, and interactive activities through art to engage residents, cultivate respect for their community and environment, and/or beautify their surroundings.
In addition to neighborhood activities, we also create green spaces in urban areas to offer a source of food, self-sustaining lessons and exposure to the arts. Some components of our gardens include interactive art pieces, sculptures, mosaics, bird houses, bird baths, colorful signs and custom painted planter boxes.
2011 Community Art Garden: Ronald McDonald House of Kansas City – Cherry Street House (2501 Cherry Street, Kansas City, MO).
Residents had access to beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, peppers, and strawberries along with various herbs like sage and basil. Colorful planter boxes were painted by our artists to incorporate Ronald’s existing play gym and our artists worked with the Ronald residents to paint garden signs. A rain barrel, painted with visitors at the Ronald McDonald Pop-Tab event, was supplied for self-watering and low maintenance. Volunteers from Urban Growth KC helped us provide garden upkeep throughout the year assisted residents to know what produce was ready for picking and eating. Some photos are show below and additional ones can be found on our facebook page.
